Running clinic

The Running Clinic at Avalon Physio is designed to analyse and improve your running technique and gait. This service is targeted at both competitive elite level athletes and individuals who want to start running with the correct technique to prevent injuries and enhance performance. Running technique analysis involves a comprehensive assessment of your running form, biomechanics, and gait patterns to identify any issues that may lead to injuries or suboptimal performance.

How the running clinic can help you:
  • Assessment: We begin with a detailed evaluation of your running technique and gait. This includes video analysis to capture your running form from various angles, allowing us to identify any biomechanical flaws or inefficiencies.
  • Personalised Treatment Plan: Based on the assessment, we create a customised plan to address any issues identified. This may include:
    • Gait Analysis: Detailed examination of your foot strike, stride length, cadence, and overall running mechanics.
    • Strength and Conditioning Exercises: Specific exercises to strengthen muscles and improve flexibility, aiming to correct any imbalances or weaknesses.
    • Technique Training: Instruction on proper running form, including posture, arm movement, and breathing techniques.
    • Footwear Advice: Recommendations on the best footwear for your running style and any orthotics if necessary.
    • Injury Prevention Strategies: Tips and exercises to prevent common running injuries, such as shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and IT band syndrome.
  • Integrated Approach: The running clinic is part of a wider injury prevention program, often combined with manual therapy, dry needling, and other physiotherapy services to provide comprehensive care.
  • Ongoing Support: Regular follow-up sessions to monitor your progress, adjust your training plan, and provide continuous support and motivation.
